A commercial agent is a trader who, through an agreement with a client, undertakes to act on behalf of the principal and in the principal's name, independently and on an ongoing basis, for the purchase or sale of goods. A commercial agent usually receives compensation in the form of commission based on the sales that the agent negotiates during the assignment period.
The Swedish Commercial Agent Act (1991:351) contains some mandatory protection rules to the benefit of the agent which limit the parties' freedom of contract.
